To reduce sodium consider these tips:
-Calculate your sodium intake:Keep a food diary to estimate how much sodium you consume each day. You may be surprised at how much you are taking in.Most healthy Adults need between 1500-2400mg of sodium a day .But if you are above 50 years or have high blood pressure,kidney or Heart disease or Diabetes you may be more sensitive to sodium.In that case aim for less than1500mg of sodium a day.
-Read Food labels :Look at the sodium content before you buy.If possible choose low sodium alternatives.Even some Vegetable juices or food you think are healthy mat surprisingly contain high amounts of sodium.
Eat fewer processed foods: Potato chips, frozen dinners and cured meat such as Bacon and processed launch meats are high in sodium.
Do not add Salt: Just one level tea spoon of salt contain 2300mg of sodium, use herbs or spices to add more flavor to your food.
Ease into it: If you don't feel like you can drastically reduce sodium consumption suddenly, cut back gradually, your palate will adjust over time.
